Town of Frisco Cracking Down on Firewood Compliance
As winter nears, the Town of Frisco would like to remind firewood providers of the licensing and tax collection requirements associated with the trade.
According to the Town of Frisco Code (Chapter 160 – 8.2A; Chapter 160 – 8.9E.), all providers of firewood are required to obtain a business license, open a sales tax account, and collect and remit the proper amount of sales tax on all deliveries and/or pick-ups within town limits.
Over the coming months, the Town will be stepping up enforcement efforts in this area. Before doing so, however, the Town would like to provide amnesty for those providers who come into compliance before Friday, October 31. The Town will gladly waive late fees and penalties on all transactions prior to this date. As outlined in the Town Code, those providers who do not come into compliance may face an audit covering the past three years of financial activity, accrued penalties and interest on all sales taxes due, and citations to appear in municipal court.
Please help the Town ensure a level playing field for those providers who are currently in compliance by contacting Chad M. Most, Revenue Specialist, at (970) 668-9127 or email@example.com. Residents and businesses that may have more information about firewood providers are also encouraged to contact the Town.
