Controlled Burns Around Summit County from December 2-5, 2025

Controlled burn

US Forest Service Fire Management personnel will be conducting pile burning operations from December 2 through December 5, 2025. Multiple locations have been identified for operations: Frisco’s North Tenmile Trail area, Ruby Ranch, Silverthorne and secondarily Ski Hill Road/Barton Road, Breckenridge. Other areas may be identified with 24 hour notice.

Ignitions are expected to begin around 10:30am each day, and smoke and flames may be visible from I-70, Highway 9, Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco, and surrounding areas. Current conditions are favorable, and piles will be allowed to burn and smolder overnight, unattended. Fire management personnel will patrol ignition areas to monitor potential smoke impacts and fuel consumption. Monitoring will also occur periodically over the next few days until the piles are out. The purpose of this pile burning is to help reduce fuel loading that occurred during hazard tree and wildfire hazard fuels reduction.
