Frisco Homicide Suspect Identified and Bail Set

Luis Antonio Mendez Hernandez appeared in court on the afternoon of December 30, 2025 and was identified as the suspect who was taken into custody by Frisco Police on December 29, 2025 in connection with the discovery of a deceased female at a Frisco residence. Frisco Police Chief Tom Wickman reiterates that there is no threat to the community regarding this case. The victim has not yet been positively identified.

Luis Antonio Mendez Hernandez is in custody based on suspicion of the following crimes:

  • CRS 18-3-102(1)(a) Murder in the First Degree after Deliberation
  • CRS 18-3-102(1)(d) Murder in the First Degree with Extreme Indifference
  • CRS 18-3-103(1)(a) Murder in the Second Degree
  • CRS 18-8-610.5(1) Tampering with a Deceased Human Body

Bail, Sealed Affidavit, and Next Court Date

  • During the December 30, 2025 Advisement Hearing, Judge Reed W. Owens determined that there was probable cause to proceed and set bail at $5 million cash surety, which was the amount requested by District Attorney Heidi McCollum.
  • In addition, Judge Owens sealed the warrantless affidavit in this case to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation and in respect for the victim. Therefore, the age, familial relationships, address, and occupation of the defendant may not be released at this time.
  • Formal charges are due by January 6, 2026.
  • The next court date is a Preliminary Demand Hearing on January 12, 2026.

Background

At 12:03am on Monday, December 29, 2025, Frisco Police responded to a call regarding a medical emergency at a Frisco residence. Once on the scene, Frisco Police discovered a deceased female of unknown age. Due to the circumstances on the scene, a search warrant was obtained for the residence. A suspect was taken into custody on December 29.

This investigation is ongoing, and no additional information may be released. The identity of the deceased woman will not be provided until the woman’s identity can be positively identified and next of kin can be notified by the Summit County Office of the Coroner.
