How To Run For Town Council

Running for Office
The legislative affairs of the Town of Frisco are governed by six Councilmembers and one Mayor. Regular Elections are held on even-numbered years on the first Tuesday in April. Candidates who are interested in running for Town Council will follow the required process to become listed on the ballot. Information becomes available in three months leading up to the election. Candidate packets include a candidate calendar with deadlines, the petition with lines for signatures, and campaign finance materials. Municipal elections are non-partisan.
Candidate Eligibility
Residents who have resided within Frisco town limits for one year, who are 18 years of age or older, who are registered electors in the Town of Frisco, and who are citizens of the United States are eligible to be appointed to Frisco Town Council. Candidates who have been convicted of embezzlement, bribery, perjury, solicitation of bribery, or subornation of perjury are not eligible to serve on Frisco Town Council. Unincorporated areas of Frisco such as, but not limited to Bill’s Ranch, Evergreen, Frisco Heights, Frisco Terrace, Giberson Tract, Ophir Mountain, Wiborg Park, Farmer’s Korner, and Copper Mountain, are not a part of Frisco town limits, and therefore, registered electors in those areas are ineligible for service on Frisco Town Council and ineligible to vote in Municipal elections.
Term Length
No person may serve as Mayor or Councilmember, or any combination thereof, for more than three consecutive terms; a term is four years. Any person appointed or elected to fill a vacancy on the Town Council and who serves one-half or more of the term of office shall be considered to have served a term in that office. Terms are considered consecutive unless they are at least two years apart.
