The Frisco Arts and Culture Council (FACC) is seeking an artist to design artwork for new waste and recycling receptacles that will be installed at 18 locations along Frisco’s Main Street. The project provides an opportunity to bring public art to prominent locations throughout the community.
Project Details
A total of 36 new waste and recycling receptacles will be installed at 18 locations along Frisco Main Street. Each location will include two receptacles placed alongside one another. The FACC is seeking nine cohesive designs from one selected artist. The nine designs will be repeated throughout the 18 locations, creating a unified artistic experience along Main Street.
- The artwork should complement Frisco’s Main Street environment and appeal to both residents and visitors of all ages. Designs may be representational or abstract and should be visually engaging while remaining appropriate for a high-traffic public setting.
- The artwork must not impede the functionality or legibility of the receptacles, including operational instructions, labels, openings, or other functional elements.
- The artwork will become part of the Town of Frisco’s public art collection. Long-term care and maintenance will be managed by FACC, and the designs may be used on additional waste and recycling receptacles added in future years.
- Artists should review the receptacle images and measurements included with the complete call for artists when considering the project.
Design Requirements
The selected artist will create nine cohesive designs specifically for application to the waste and recycling receptacles.
The final deliverable must be provided as an Adobe InDesign file using a template supplied by FACC. The template will include the shape and dimensions of the receptacles and will be provided to the selected artist following selection.
Vinyl printing and application of the artwork to the receptacles will be conducted by the receptacle fabricating company.
Honorarium
The selected artist will receive a total honorarium of $10,000, which constitutes full compensation for all services, goods, materials, and expenses associated with the project. Fifty percent of the honorarium will be paid upon execution of the contract, with the remaining 50 percent paid upon completion of the installation.
Selection Criteria
Criteria used to select artwork include, but are not limited to, the quality of the artist’s previous work and how that work may translate into a suitable and aesthetically compelling design for the receptacles. Final artwork will need to have broad-based interest and appeal for all ages while complementing and enhancing the character of Frisco’s Main Street.
Local, regional, and national artists are encouraged to apply.
