The Town of Frisco and the Frisco Arts and Culture Council (FACC) are seeking to commission a vibrant outdoor mural for a building at the Frisco Adventure Park, located within the Peninsula Recreation Area (PRA). The mural is being funded by the Town of Frisco through a process led by the Frisco Arts and Culture Council and will become part of Frisco’s permanent public art collection.
Mural Site Details
The mural will be installed on a building located at the heart of the Frisco Adventure Park, between the area’s three primary recreation buildings. The Adventure Park welcomes more than 165,000 community members and visitors each year who come to enjoy activities including mountain biking in the summer and tubing and Nordic skiing in the winter.
There are four primary mural locations on the building on the north, east, south, and west facing exterior walls. Only the building’s shingle siding will be painted. The total paintable surface is approximately 635 square feet, including 160 square feet on the north wall, 230 square feet on the south wall, 95 square feet on the east wall, and 150 square feet on the west wall.
Project Goals
This mural project is intended to blend art, outdoor recreation, and the natural beauty of Frisco while creating an engaging visual experience for visitors of all ages. The mural should complement the aesthetics of the Frisco Adventure Park and enhance the surrounding built and natural environment.
Designs may be representational or abstract and should have broad appeal. FACC welcomes proposals that incorporate community participation, although community involvement is not required. Artists choosing to include a community component should clearly describe the proposed activities and their benefits.
Artists are encouraged to review the Town of Frisco Arts and Culture Plan, adopted in January 2023, for inspiration on themes and the community’s vision for public art.
Honorarium
The selected artist will receive a total honorarium of $12,700, which constitutes full compensation for all services, materials, supplies, travel, and installation associated with the project. Fifty percent of the honorarium will be paid upon execution of the contract, with the remaining balance paid upon successful completion of the mural.
