Dillon Dam Repaving Starting on July 24

Repaving project on Dillon Dam Road will begin Monday, July 24, in cooperation with the Town of Frisco and Summit County; the western most portion of Dillon Dam Road is in Town of Frisco boundaries. The project, intended to conclude within three weeks, will impact drivers and recreationalists, including those accessing the campgrounds in the area.

The project will involve mill and overlay from the intersection of Dillon Dam Road and North Summit Boulevard east to the guard shack at the dam. Operations are anticipated to take place between Monday and Friday from 7:00am-7:00pm, but some Saturday operations may be necessary. During the project, drivers are advised to use I-70 or Swan Mountain Road to minimize delays.

Necessary mid-day vehicular traffic closures will be conditions-based, and notifications will be sent out via the County’s SCAlert messaging system. Summit County residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to sign up this text and email-based alert system at scalert.org.

“This is an important route for Summit County residents and visitors,” said Jim Benkelman with Summit County’s Road and Bridge Department. “Combining forces with Town of Frisco on this project will include much-needed maintenance work in the parking areas and a better experience for all users along this stretch of Dillon Dam Road,” he added.

Impacts:

  • Drivers should expect delays including single lane travel and brief holds.
  • The recreation path will remain open at this time, but users should expect equipment operations alongside the path.
  • Campers using Heaton Bay Campground and other Forest Service access points will experience impacts and delays, but the County is in contact with the Forest Service to help minimize disruption.
  • Paddlers and others accessing the lake along the Dam Road should choose other access points as parking will be unavailable in most areas.

Single Land and Full Lane Closures Through Friday, August 11

Starting Tuesday, August 1, paving of Dillon Dam Road is scheduled to begin and last for up to 10 days. The Westbound Lane will be closed from Dillon to Frisco until Friday, August 4 at 7:00 pm to complete paving through the intersection of N Summit Blvd. The Eastbound Lane will remain open to motorists.

Once the section of Dillon Dam Road located in Frisco is completed, paving will start at the winter gate closure across from Lake View Terrace to complete the Summit County portion. Drivers should expect road and parking area closures along Dillon Dam Road throughout the day while paving is occurring until Friday, August 11. The road will reopen at the end of each day while paving this section.
