The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 5:00pm – 6:30pm at the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge. Community members will hear from the USFS regarding the Backyard Plan, which encompasses 1,576.3 acres of fuels reduction activities along with trail decommissioning, improvements, and construction activities near the Town of Frisco. This open house kicks off the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) comment period, which will be open for 60-days for the public to provide comments online or via the mail.
The USFS will begin their presentation at 6:00pm and will include story boards about the project. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
Proposal Highlights
The proposal is detailed and analyzed in a draft environmental assessment, which is available for a 60-day public comment period starting on April 4, 2025. The proposal includes:
- 1,576 acres of various wildfire fuel treatments divided into 63 treatment units.
- Creating a more sustainable summer trail system through actions such as constructing or rerouting trails, decommissioning trail sections, and adopting and maintaining select user-created trails.
- Grooming approximately 10.2 miles of National Forest System trails and non-NFS routes during the winter for multiple uses (skiing, snowshoeing, hiking/walking, running, bicycling, etc.). All trails open to bicycles during the summer season would be open to bicycles during the winter season, which is currently prohibited.
- The Peaks/Zach’s Stop Trailhead and Miner’s Creek Trailheads would be redesigned and improved to better manage parking and reduce impacts to adjacent neighborhoods.
